Make the most of Christmas Nights of Lights
The park’s storybook setting takes on a different feel after dark, with holiday lights turning an outdoor stroll into the main attraction. Give children time to look around rather than treating the visit as a quick lap. This is a walking experience, so comfortable shoes and warm layers matter more than dressing up.
The Christmas event is a fundraiser that helps keep summer admission free. It is also a lovely option when your family wants Christmas atmosphere without committing to a full day of activities. Plan an early meal, then arrive with enough time to enjoy the displays at your own pace.
Tickets & admission
Buy admission through Storybook Island when holiday tickets become available. The light display has its own paid admission, separate from the park’s free summer season. Check the operating calendar for your chosen evening, especially around Christmas, and watch for weather updates before leaving the resort.
Getting here from Canyon Lake Resort
Bring hats, gloves, and footwear suited to a winter walk. For younger children, consider how long they are comfortable outdoors after sunset and plan around that. Keep an extra layer in the car for the trip back. The park is on Sheridan Lake Road; follow event parking signs when you arrive.
Make a Black Hills getaway of it
Being only a short drive away means you can keep the evening simple. Spend the day around Rapid City, return to your room or cabin for a break, and head out for the lights after dinner. For another holiday outing, add downtown shopping or a concert on a different day.
